Florida school to be named for J.W. Cooper graduate
The new high school in Dade County, Florida, scheduled to open in August, will be named the Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School, after the veteran school board member.
Krop is a 1948 graduate of Shenandoah's J.W. Cooper High School, now Shenandoah Valley.
Krop, who was first elected to the board in 1980, pushed for the construction of the new school, which will relieve overcrowding at North Miami Beach and Norland senior high schools.
A strong proponent of high academic standards and fiscal constraint, Krop, a dentist, has been re-elected four times and has served as the board's chair and vice-chair and on a number of district committees.
